Sage Dentistry of Arvada – Dentures
A traditional denture is a removable dental appliance to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. It is composed of a gum colored plastic base with artificial teeth that look similar to your natural teeth. Dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth for better chewing and speaking. They also help to fill in the sagging areas of your face that missing teeth can cause.
Two Types of Traditional Dentures
● Complete Dentures – Used to replace a full upper or lower arch of teeth, when all the teeth are missing or extracted. Conventional dentures are made after extraction and placed after the gums have healed, which takes about eight to twelve weeks. Immediate dentures are made ahead of time and placed immediately after extraction.
● Partial Dentures – Used to fill a gap with artificial teeth when only a few teeth are missing. A partial denture is also called a removable bridge.
Dentures which are anchored by implants are a permanent, more secure alternative to traditional dentures. Several artificial tooth roots are surgically implanted into the jaw to serve as structures to support a complete or partial denture. The denture can then attach to the implants for a very secure fit and function. Implant-supported dentures restore 90% of bite strength and reduce the amount of jaw deterioration more than traditional dentures. There are many benefits to implant-supported dentures. Because they are attached to the permanent implants, they do not shift, slide, or fall out when you chew or speak.
